Statistics show that over 300,000 Americans die of sudden cardiac arrest every year. With proper training and access to AEDs, approximately 50,000 lives could be saved each year. The American Red Cross wishes for all Americans to be within four minutes of an AED and someone trained to use it.
- Why do we need AEDs in the workplace?
- Approximately 150 million Americans go to work every day where they spend more than half of their waking hours. The American Red Cross advocates CPR and AED training in the workplace to help keep workers safe. The Red Cross also advocates increased public access to AEDs in places such as corporate offices, shopping malls, airports, sports stadiums and other places where large groups of people gather and the risk of an SCA incident is very likely.
- Every Second Counts
- When someone is suffering from sudden cardiac arrest, every second counts. Approximately 95% of sudden cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital. The average time for a first responder to arrive on the scene is 7 minutes. However, without proper care, brain death occurs in just 4 minutes. By being trained in CPR/AED and having an AED readily available, you can help provide the necessary care for a victim who needs your immediate help.
