The American Red Cross of Northeast Indiana offers a variety of youth education programs focusing on a range of preparedness topics. Scrubby Bear(Ages 5 to 7)

Scrubby Bear says "Don't Get Sick, Wash Up Quick!"

Begin the school year with Scrubby Bear, a 30-minute interactive program for preschool through 2nd grade students. Our Scrubby Bear mascot acts out good hand washing hygiene as a Red Cross volunteer tells the story of Scrubby and his close calls with germs. Scrubby has a fun song with actions to teach the importance of hand washing in several types of situations.

F.A.C.T.: First Aid for Children's Today (Ages 5 to 8)

First Aid for Children Today (FACT) is a 10-14 hour course. The FACT Critter Clan leads kids through health promotion and injury prevention activities. Its environmental theme teaches safety in a non-threatening way. Topics include:

  • Health habits
  • First aid
  • Personal safety
  • Injury prevention

Masters of Disaster (Ages 5 to 14)

The award-winning Masters of Disaster is a preparedness curriculum designed to teach children how to prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and other emergencies. Educational and interactive lessons are designed to teach youth the importance of preparedness in a non-threatening, fear-reducing manner. Topics include:

  • Be Disaster Safe
  • Fire Safety and Prevention
  • Floods
  • Home Safety
  • Lightning
  • Tornadoes

B.A.T.: Basic Aid Training (Ages 8 to 10)

Basic Aid Training (BAT) is a 6 hour course. BAT introduces youth to the emergency action steps (Check-Call-Care) and to basic first aid procedures. An activity book with puzzles and games teaches children how to prevent injuries and what to do in an emergency.

Babysitter's Training (Ages 11 to 15)

Babysitter's Training is an 8-hour, certified course. Training provides young babysitters with the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for infants and children. Topics include:

  • Injury prevention
  • First aid
  • Basic childcare
  • Decision making
  • Problem solving
  • Leadership skills

Pet First Aid (Ages 10 and up)

Pet First Aid is a 3-hour course. This course teaches dog and cat owners how to care for their animals during an emergency; how to recognize and apply first aid for common animal emergencies such as choking, cuts, insect bites, burns and poisoning. Great for the entire family!
